DEARBORN, cialis MI — Ford Motor Co. says it’s donating $1 million to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, to help celebrate richness and diversity of the African American experience. The new museum is scheduled to open in 2016 on the National Mall in Washington.
In a statement the company said the donation builds on Ford’s long support of African Americans and a 40-year relationship with Smithsonian Institution.
Congress established the National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2003 as the 19th museum of the Smithsonian. The 400,000-square-foot building is under construction at a 5-acre site next to the Washington Monument and is expected to cost about $500 million.
The Dearborn-based automaker says the gift comes from its philanthropic arm, the Ford Motor Co. Fund. The company says it’s given at least $11.5 million in the past 40 years for exhibits at programs with the Smithsonian.
