Putting Blacks and Welfare into a Proper Context

Slavery was nothing unique to whites only, or even only in the Americas. Slavery started thousands of years ago in Africa. The first documented case of slavery is in Egypt. Many tribes throughout the world have/still do practice slavery. Educating yourself on world history actually shows that many of the slaves taken by the whites from Africa were purchased from tribes along the coast. They willingly sold their war criminals and slaves that they had taken from enemy tribes.
I would also like to remind you that when the Irish, and really every group of immigrants, suffered persecution by refusal of employment at one time or another. I have had my own experience of being interviewed by a black manager and only seeing black or Hispanic employees.
You site black unemployment as if it were unfairly cast upon blacks. How about doing some research, or just observing blacks in the inner cities, and you’ll find that they lack the desire to educate themselves in a classical sense. They often refer to getting good grades as “acting like whitey”. Blacks are all given a chance to get an education, but far too many of them don’t make use of it, plain and simple.
Also, and here is where I will get in trouble for stating a true fact, there is no denying that blacks just aren’t as smart as other ethnicities. Blacks finish dead last in test scores in every school system in America. How many scientifically advanced nations are there in Africa? Try none, and this is where they are on equal footing and left to their own acomplishments. Maybe that has something to do with why they are the last hired, and the first fired.
MikeRobe?
“How about doing some research, or just observing blacks in the inner cities, and you’ll find that they lack the desire to educate themselves in a classical sense.”
As the author of this article. I find this comment simply ignorant. I have very little time but let’s set the record straight on this issue.
A few facts. More that 78% of blacks are educated in the public school system. Based on data, from the NEA and the Dept of Education, the average student in public schools score much lower on standardized testing that those whom are educated in private schools. Therefore, the education being offered in public school is woefully inadequate to produce the kind of citizens who are prepared for the learning at the nations top universities or finding employment at incomes that exceed $35,000 per year. Even the valedictorians of many of these institution find themselves under educated. This is at the heart of our rejection of public education. It is often worthless.
“How many scientifically advanced nations are there in Africa?”
Four South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria….
Research has being done for my book on Poverty. It will be out soon. I’ll send you a free copy.
-B
12% of the population collects 33% of welfare. Indeed there is a problem in the black community. It could be fixed significantly is 70% of black children were NOT born out of wedlock.
Marriage and the nuclear family are the great equalizer. Compare the poverty rates amongst married couples–black vs. white and the difference is nominal.
Im sorry Mikerobe but where do you get your “facts’ that black people arent as smart as other minorities. Really? I know many Africans who come to the states and succeed as doctors, lawyers, in technology, computer science, real estate and anything they put their mind to. Also how many countries in Latin America are technologically advanced that have a primarily mestizo population? 0. How many pacific islander nations? 0 It’s not because African-Americans, Latinos and Pacific Islanders aren’t capable but maybe they haven’t had the development put there. And many European scientific advances come from Egyptian civilization, the Middle East and Asia like gunpowder, chess, Trigonometry, Algebra, mathematics in general as well as many inventions. So how does that make you all smarter when many of the things you build your society on came from asian countries? Also the number of white men who have invented technologies is like 25-30% of the population max and that was based on Middle eastern, egyptian, and Asian inventions.
I think white people like you wish it to be true that black people are less intelligent but if that were true how come so many of you white racists are constantly pulling dirty tricks and maneuvers to stop black people from progressing. Why did white slave owners not allow black people to learn to read and write doing slavery if we were so unintelligent. It should not have been a threat to them if black people weren’t as intelligent as any other race. Your arguments are paper thin. Not all white people are smart either and a lot of white people have benefited from having better supplied schools with higher trained staff, more resources, parents who had the opportunities at better incomes many times because of the color of their skin.
And the fact that you would use some test scores from tests that many black kids aren’t taught to properly master is bullshit.
In fact, some white people don’t want to acknowledge how intelligent many black people are because you don
t want to have to compete fairly for jobs, income and other amenities. That’s why you all are so scared and discriminate. I know many white people that I know more than because I study and learn and they don’t want to be bothered. Like how many white people don’t even know Spanish even though there is a large Latino population in the United States. yes many black children are misguided in thinking that good grade are acting like “whitey” but many of them have grown up in families that have suffered from poverty and a lack of education since the end of the civil war. Things only recently improved for many black people and students I would say in the last 15-20 years and there have been great strides and also if indeed black people collect 33% of the welfare who is collecting the other 67%?
I also think that as black people we need to take the initiative to create more educational programs in our communities. These programs will equip black workers and youth with tangible skills they can take to the work place. We also need to create more black owned businesses which will create wealth in our community. By doing this we can reach out to Africa to create strong and successful partnerships and get the resources we need to build successful businesses and wealth in our communities while also building up development in Africa. Also let’s not forget about other black people in the Diaspora such as Black people in the Caribbean and Latin America.
One thing many Asians do is to ensure as many of their children as possible will study in lucrative careers such as medicine, technology, computer science, information technology, mathmatics, law, finance and business etc. That is what many African-Americans need to do. We need to prepare our children to major in these disciplines from an early age. I would say about 7 years of age on up. We need to make sure they get started in learning these skills throughout grade school so that when they are ready to go to college they will be able to excel and succeed in these disciplines.
While other people of other races do advocate for poor black children we also need to advocate for our own children and ourselves. That means taking time out and teaching the skills and knowledge we possess and passing it on.
Since you’re being so specific of the facts: Blacks were slaves for only 86 years under the Govt of the USA. It took that govt only 26 years to outlaw slave imports then another 60 to end it. All Republican efforts to affect Equality for American Blacks was thwarted by Democrats. Senator Lyndon B Johnson killed Eisenhower’s Civil Rights attempts and in ’63 signed a far inferior bill into law. THAT bill has been the stumbling block of American Blacks ever sense.
Yes under the US Gov it was 86 years . But if you add the colonial period it was about 286 years . Also blacks had to fight tooth and nail for equality for many years even today . We may have a self identifying black man as pres but we still have as much racism as in the past it’s just not as out there as in past gnerations . Yes some blacks to some degree are brainwashed from the media but thats because of lack of direction . We dont get as many perks being black as white people may think . But they will never understand that because to them we should just be happy we are not slaves anymore .
I am black and I was educated in the public school system, but even I know that “since” is the correct word to use in the context of you last sentence Mr. Belcher. Just a side note, we were Republicans before we were Democrats and some of us are still Republicans, just in case you didn’t know that.
The author of this article is extremely biased. He implies in his comment that public school is inadequate for preparing an individual to earn more than $35,000/year. What a joke. Now, i t s public schools fault that blacks dont achieve. This is the problem with the disparity of African Americans in the USA…there is always an external reason why African Americans do not achieve. Its never the fact that an individual is lazy, unmotivated or has a sense of entitlement. We live in the richest country in the world. People that live in poverty here would be considered rich in Africa. If you are able to work and cannot succeed in this country, there’s something wrong with you, not the public school system.
ACCOUNTABILITY – if these people would attend school and put effort into their education, maybe they would learn the meaning of this “big” word and stop blaming external causes for their own situation
The stat of 70% of AA babies being born out of wedlock is not only extremely sad and disconcerting but it underlines my exact point. For whatever reason, 70% of AA fathers neglect the responsibility of caring for theiw own flesh and blood. A responsibility that the majority of people
regard as compulsory. A key difference between humans and animals. It’s extremely sad and unfair to the children who are being born at a disadvantage because of the neglect of their parents.
I am shocked at the white pretenders that imagined instances where they felt disadvantaged and are trying to justify their racism. I worked for AB (BUD) for 15+ years. I am white. In 2004 we got a young Black relief sales rep, Chris Scales Be. He did a good job, what he was told, diligently. He worked my route, and others, many times so well that some of my demanding customers, and other customers liked him as much and more than the regular sales reps. I always scored excellent with my customers and most of my friends customers told me they liked him a lot. And he did a great job. At the office, most sales reps and some managers, were referring to him with the N word. The kid was GOOD. But the bigots there, and there were some KKK supporters, along with some bad Latinos that felt threatened got him fired, instead of promoted. He moved to the local Pepsi distributor, made salesman of the year and eventually moved back to Colorado, his home state. Racism and bigotry against Blacks,Latinos and even most foreigners is ALIVE AND WELL. I see it in the faces of White acquaintances when they find out this import is much better off than they are as “natives”. How dare I do better,me, a non-Anglo. Finally, as a sales rep I have worked and serviced all of San Diego county and this is what I have seen. The schools in the poorer Black and Latino areas are FAR INFERIOR to White AFFLUENT areas, BOTH STRUCTURALLY AND ACADEMICALLY. Look it up. High Schools in San Diego. Or any City.
If public schools was suffice for higher learning , why is it that more whites have their children attending in Christian Academies aka private schools? Why the need for such institutions are revelant if public schools offers the education needed to advance in society? Here , public schools are currently being taught from out dated books inwhich funds for such are placed in the whiter institution . And many blacks have learned that what’s being taught in schools are not accurate accounts of history but was found to be bias and trickery . There were several inventions as we know invented by the minds and hands of blacks but was , as usual , accredited to whites . Fact .
Plenty of people go to public schools and get a great education. Far more important than the school you go to is the curiosity and intellectual values instilled in you by your parents and extended family. A friend of mine works at a mostly black public school in Coney Island and tells me that her school gets more money and resources than other mostly white schools in the city. The problem with black poverty is rooted in large portions of black culture and its values. Intellectual and academic achievement is tremendously undervalued. Proper english is not taught. The idea of bettering yourself and improving your standard of living is discarded in exchange for the cop out of racist futility. Nevermind that the chinese, hispanics, jews, etc. work like fiends and improve their lives despite racist opinions of them.
Fletcher S: To me, the word most indicates majority. In fact, the percent of whites in private grade schools is under 15%–13% for middle school and 11% for high school while 7% (6.9% middle, 7.1% high) of blacks attend private school.
The best source I could was a study that analyzed census data regarding private school rates:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CDMQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ipr.northwestern.edu%2Fjcpr%2Fworkingpapers%2Fwpfiles%2Ffairlie_resch.pdf
You should research something before you repeat it as gospel. I grew up in a middle class suburb that is neighbored by 2 affluent cities–Southlake & Colleyville (suburbs of Dallas, TX) and among my peers, there were very few who attended private schools.
@ Matt H: I don’t know where you got your numbers but in San Diego County these are the facts. Outside a few Catholic schools in South Bay that are frequented almost exclusively with Mexican children, many from wealthy across the border, The VAST majority of the kids in private schools are White and Asian. Blacks are no higher than 1-2%. Now as for your neighborhood. My kids attended Scripps Ranch, public,High School (92131) and over the last 5 years 85% of graduates attended Universities (including Latino and AfroAmerican kids that were being bussed before that ended in 09-10). Look at the demographics of zip 92131. My co-workers kids, poorer, living in zips 91910 and 91911 attended mostly Castle Park H.S. that sends about 15% of it’s graduates to college. The only intrusion to the dominance of Whites in the Good Private schools here are newly rich Asians. Conclusion: In the very high end neighborhoods there is no need to attend private schools, like 92130,92131,92037,and surrounding areas, While zips like 92101,92103,92115,91910, 92154 have to go to private to have a chance. I wish racism would become extinct. The movie Trading Places is so true, based on my life experiences. Just look at sports, even the White ones like tennis and golf, blacks and Hispanics may be even more able than us, given equal opportunities .
so based on these numbers you state regarding Food Stamps:(parts taken directly from your article)though blacks are only 12% of the population, black households make up 1/3 of all food stamp participants. However, whites account for another 31% and Latinos account for another 28%. This means that Roughly 39% of all blacks in the US are on Food Stamps, while 7% of all Whites are on food stamps. The Point is too many people are on them, and we have only added Millions more in the past 4 years. We should be moving in the opposite direction, however all the statistics suggest we are still not moving in the right direction. The fact that the african american unemployment is nearly twice as high as it averaged while Bush was in office(2000-2008), is a sign to me that things are moving in the wrong direction. By the way, these numbers came from the 2010 US Census, as well as http://www.blackeconomicdevelopment.com.
When a person says that blacks are lazy, it is offensive to blacks. We should try to avoid generalizing people period. I don’t need to look up numbers to disprove a generalized statement. If people look at me as being lazy they will never give me a fare chance. I pray that one day we all can just be called humans. United We Stand.
For anyone who hasn’t lived in all areas of a big city, from the economic/ethnic/racial ghettos to the best upscale neighborhoods and has not interacted with all varieties of people,LIKE I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE, Watch that old Eddie Murphy classic TRADING PLACES. It is so true as to what people can do when given the opportunity OR have it denied to them. Look at the Williams Sisters,Tiger Woods,Arthur Ashe. No one is born saying “I want to be a junkie,on welfare,or lazy”. ALL are born HUMANS though. Opportunities is what separates them later. Think about what opportunity means though. Before judging.
@ Marty. As most people your 1/2 right. Your numbers are correct but your interpretation is biased based on your political views. I am not going to repeat myself for the 100th time and tell you what you all ready know. GWB destroyed our economy period. See Glass Steagell Act of 1933. The last 3 Republican Presidents did the same thing, just not as severe as GW and as a result the recovery will take at best 10 years. Our economy general goes into recession of some severity about every 10 years and recovers over a time frame of about 1 year. The problem here is this recession missed the classical definition of a depression by 1%. This was not your daddy’s recession. Thanks to Obama ( but not really)we are slowly pulling out of it but its going to take years. I say not really because everyone agreed he had no choice in the measures he took started by Bush and continued by Obama. What Bush did in laymen terms was to buy a car and quit his job. Now how is he going to pay for the expenses he is running up. He simply can’t. And this is Obama fault, How so? Intercity blacks have a high % of dropouts. This will fix itself over many years but the easy way is simply to cut funding to anyone who is not in a program of advancement. Good Day.
You got to love this article. You prove a point well. The last lines tell it like it is. “With these and many other things in mind, blacks are simply playing the cards that they are dealt. None of them are a ‘race card’. While the facts above can be manipulated to say almost anything, the REAL TRUTH is, Blacks were given a bad hand in America. The disproportionate number of blacks on welfare and/ or receiving food stamps is simply due to the unfortunate set of circumstances that blacks have had to (and continue) to deal with that NO OTHER RACE has ever had to.
Therefore, until you put these statements in their proper context, SHUT UP.” This shows the main proble. They are:
1) 13% of the popul;ation is black yet 33% of those on welfare are black and you don’t see that as an issue. 2) Its all whities fault for what was done to the blacks 150+ years ago. And you wonder why there is a racial issue here! People like you are the issue.
Yes it is an issue, that’s the point! Just because somebody points out the facts does not mean they are racist or “playing a card”. I hate how people turn on people for pointing out what is true. Just because it is true does not mean there are not other factors involved, just like the article suggests. My point is to point out that over the past 4-5 years, it has moved in the WRONG DIRECTION and that makes me sick at my stomach. I don’t care who is on welfare, there are too many people that are FORCED to be. And too many people that don’t try. Of all races. With my statistics, all i did was break down the numbers. Maybe I should go re-read what i posted. Not sure how it is my fault…
And as an earlier post said about Oppertunity: Some of us are given a greater opportunity, while others are not given as much of an opportunity, but in this country, EVERYONE is given an opportunity of some sort. Even the worst hand of spades can still pull a few tricks…. if you want it to.
Marty – just let me have some of that white privilege that you have that started back in 1844 and give us a 165 year start and we would do fine, but of course that would result in another Tulsa or rosewood incident.
In this country of plenty, we have people living in poverty that are obese. We also have people living in poverty who own and drive automobiles, a luxury that most people in the world don’t have access to.
The blacks in America should consider themselves lucky. Look at all the genocide, government corruption and terrible poverty that is widespread in Africa among other places in the world. Anyone who lives in the richest country in the world (a place where people who don’t even have 8th grade educations and can’t speak the language are able to make a living) but still complain and make excuses, should take a look at themselves as the cause. I don’t care who you are..what color, what nationality, etc, we are all lucky to live in this land of plenty.
The blacks have been dealt a shit hand, in the past but because of their ancestors hardship, they now live in the wealthiest country on earth and have more opportunity than 90%+ of the world. All of you who are blaming their hardships on external causes should think about what your life would be like if your ancestors were NOT enslaved and sold by their own people, to come to America as slaves. You may be walking around with a missing arm and an empty belly…and you wouldn’t be able to blame your circumstance on the evil whities. It’s blacks who are oppressing blacks in Africa. And there are people facing MUCH worse hardship than “not being able to attend private school”. Perhaps your nitpicking about educational opportunity is a sign of just how good we have it here.
Anything less than happiness for the opportunity you have is ungrateful. And to squander it away by copping out and throwing up excuses as to why you can not succeed, seems blasphemous to the millions of Africans who are suffering immensely to this day.
Bill Cosby has got it right about the state of black America. I don’t know which is the chicken and which is the egg but the complaining and constant pulling of the race card is what fuels the continued de facto discrimination. The people I feel for is the many hard working blacks and the single mothers who do their best to raise their children well, despite living in areas rife with crime and hardship. It is a sad situation but no legislation will fix it, it will have to come from within. A change of attitude is definitely in order for some folks. If the race card continues to get played and blacks continue to make excuses and live off the government in large numbers, it will continue to be riskier to hire a black candidate.
Legislatively, everyone has the most even playing field possible and if you add in affirmative action, hiring ratios, scholarships and other similar benefits, you could say the scales are actually tipped in black people’s favor. At this point, the only thing that can help further is an increase in work ethic, change of attitude and re-imaging to help turn the tides of de facto discrimination. ..all of which, only blacks themselves can do.
Matt one of the things I see in your comment is a repeat of the same old white american dialog that has been repeated over and over again to cover up white Americas guilt. And also you know very little about black Americas thinking and feeling. Live off the government statement pisses me off – The government lived off of us for over 300 years. We were enslaved longer that we free in this. And also the comment of Africans enslaving us you better read African history before going down that alley.
Matt made some excellent points. Charles, you sound like a black man who refuses to take any responsibility for your situation. Your comment about the government “living off of us for 300 years” suggests that you seek a government safety net as compensation. The government can take away just as much as they give. Do you really believe that reliance on a government subject to change with shifting political attitudes is the way to prosperity? If you are in, or work in a position dependent upon government resources, I would imagine so.
Just for the record, i am a black male that voted for Obama in 08, but not in 2012. Why wouold you assume i am White? because i don’t agree with you? Or because i used facts to back up my arguments? It saddens me that people that think for themselves are classified into a category, immediately. There have been MILLIONS more non-black slaves in this world than black. Read a little history, just a little. Until we stop making excuses about the behavior of our current “brothers”, we will never succeed. Look for a reason to be successful, rather than a reason to fail. I don’t care what the numbers are when it comes to food stamps, it’s too many. Quit making excuses and just agree that it is “too many”.
I found this when i was doing research trying to prove that the crime rate among blacks was higher because of the media, etc. I found just the opposite. My research paper took a drastic turn. This makes me sad. I don’t blame anyone but the individuals who make these decisions.
http://www.colorofcrime.com/colorofcrime2005.pdf
Matt I extend my apologies for making such a assumption, it was clearly wrong. Yes I do not agree with all your comment – it was totally out of frustration of people being critical of Black folk
with out solutions.
Blacks have just as much opportunity as whites or hispanics in the US and they choose not to take it. There were quite a few other countries that had blacks as slaves as well and I don’t see the blacks there acting the way they do here. Many refuse to learn and speak proper english, what kind of job do you seriously think someone will get when they start a sentence by saying “I’m finna…”, in stead of “I’m gonna or going to”, I don’t care what color you are, when can’t form a proper sentence you won’t get hired. Most have also learned how to abuse the welfare system. Why work when all tax payers will take care of your basic needs??
VL. what other countries are you commenting about? As far a tax payers taken care of basic needs, I was and still am tax payer, and I don’t have problem – 14% unemployment or more people need help. And no, Blacks do not have the same opportunity as whites. and do not bring the Hispanics in and compare them with Blacks.
As a member of a rural town in the Southern US (79% black), the ignorance of African Americans fascinates me. The average yearly income in my hometown is $20,000. Call me racist, but the black race as I see it has not the smallest trickle of thought to advance themselves. It was repeatedly stated that they are not given the same opportunity is absolute blasphemy. I am currently a college student and the pale grants that blacks receive is crazy. Colleges try to make there colleges diverse, but black white is not much of a diversity. If you want to see the real thought process of an African American and what there intentions are look up “Best of Obamas Voters” on youtube. This is not a select few people that think like this it is the majority of all blacks and it absolutely infuriates me. Don’t at all think that it is a metropolis thing for African Americans to behave in suck a manor it is EVERYWHERE. There are many farmers that need workers and do without where I am from just due to the fact that blacks have NO incentive to work. Its time to stop blaming the white man for his actions 150 years ago if blacks really wanted change you think they could have done it in a century and half. PS. 93% of black people voted for Obama and more government assistance…I wonder why and white racism is not the problem its blacks justifying there failures and still blaming the white man.
Reading these responses made my head start hurting. I am black. I’m not on welfare, never been arrested, served in this country’s military for over 20 years. I love this country and its people and I thought I was older and mature enough to ignore these verbal attacks and usually I am. But when I picture myself sitting back in Iraq, wondering if I’ll make it to see my family, I’m glad that, at that time, I wasn’t reading responses to an article like most of these. It would be depressing (like is this what I’m fighting for?). And I’m not closed minded. I’ve been to many countries and interacted with people of many different colors. I won’t snatch your purse in the elevator. I won’t steal from your store, rob you or rape your daughter. I don’t kill indiscriminately but I will kill to protect your child’s life. I don’t want anyone’s tax money, job, or anything. Keep it, I’ll survive. That way if your life is not perfect, you can’t blame people that look like me. Get to know us. We have some of the same hopes and dreams but not all the same guidance and resources. We’re different but that makes life interesting. We’re not all blonde hair, blue eyes like Hitler’s master race. We were brought to America under harsh circumstances but we’re Americans like you. Don’t raise your kids to believe all the stereotypes (that goes for every race). Just for once, just acknowledge that in this country, everything hasn’t been, is not and will not ever be equal. White citizens, it’s okay to admit that. We’re still cool. For every stereotype you all use to judge black people, I could name a separate one for you regardless of your race or skin color but that’s not necessary. Travel across (DRIVE) this great country and you’ll see some great and sorry people of every color. It may seem like we’re the root of all your struggles in life, like why your wife hates you, why you lost your job on wall street, why dogs crap in your yard or why it rained today (a little exaggeration but you get my point). Smile, you’re human just like us. I am not attacking YOU. I embrace the differences. Life is too short. I could write a book about all the blatant things that have happened to me from other races. I have reason to hate but I don’t. Can’t let the devil in other people rent space in my head for long periods. And I have white and hispanic friends who absolutely did not believe these things until they witnessed the racism themselves (yes in 2012). Then it’s like Wow. And the fact that I just take it like a man boggles their minds. I’m not on some high horse saying my life was any harder than yours but spitting venom over the internet highways is counterproductive. And that’s not my intent. Let’s work on answers together. Peace
”It may seem like we’re the root of all your struggles in life, like why your wife hates you, why you lost your job on wall street, why dogs crap in your yard or why it rained today”
This sounds more like the black man blaming the white man than vise versa. Thanks for serving in the military and being an independent american i speak about the majority not the few or individual and also saying the black man doesn’t have the same guidance or resources…GROW UP and you are the definition of a hypocrite!!! Keep making excuses for failure.
The lack of guidance comes partly from more than 2/3 of black fathers neglecting their fatherly duties. If an individual doesn’t care enough about their own child, to do the right thing then its hard to imagine that they would be very kind to a stranger. Which may partially explain why AA’s commit homicide at 8 times the rate of others. (Thanks to Javar’s report for the Source). This is a big part of the problem…the fact that 2/3 of black youth grow up without their fathers.
If you want to understand what an average middle aged white person who lives in the suburbs’ view of the American black culture is….have a listen to rap music. That’s about as much as they know about it. And although you do not live that type of lifestyle, Mike, it doesn’t mean that everyone who looks like you, behaves and thinks like you do.
There’s no reason for debate without posing a solution to the problem and in this case, the only solution can come from within. There needs to be a re-imaging: a new attitude and set of behaviors that can be ingrained into the culture, to replace the reliance on government checks (which because of benefit eligibility requirements, thwarts black couples from marrying and keeps the women having babies).
On paper, blacks have as good or better opportunity than anyone else in this country. Discrimination by race is illegal everywhere and policies such as Affirmative Action, actually grant a benefit over others. De-facto discrimination still exists but that is because of other people’s view of what the black culture is and that can only be changed by re-imaging and a change in behavior and mindset. If there is no company to hire you, start a business. Cant afford to go to college? Take a low interest government loan or go into the military. If you are willing to work, there is a bounty of opportunity in this country for EVERYONE.
Well said Matt.
Economics 101 dictates that the current “modern” economy requires a 4-6% unemployed workforce at all times in order to make the hiring and firing of workers a smooth process. Unemployment is as of 11/12 hovering @ 7.7% (if you can believe current government stats), clearly this indicates a lack of opportunity. For someone to suggest otherwise is a solid indication of disinformation.
Disadvantaged people of all races are continually deluded by disinformation, usually one mans/groups ignorant opinion is thought by many to be fact because the man/group claims to be an expert or an authority on an ambiguous topic. They claim to be the go to authorities and will more often than not make claims that can not be substantiated and will invoke their expertise in the matter as the final word. If you question their authority they will then lash out with claims of blasphemy, as if they are gods among men, and continue with a barrage of specific jargon designed to ridicule, debase and intimidate their opponent in a manner that leaves their opponent/enemy in a unfavorable light. Never mind the fact that all they are using is hearsay and innuendo, this, in and of itself, is usually all it takes for their foe to submit out of frustration.
Their has been and will continue to be a culture of indentured servitude that envelops the current rhetoric of capitalism , the despot’s of our so called “free” market system will continue to suggest that we are a land of entitlements. What they wont tell you is that the rich are entitled to everything, while the indentured servants are entitled to nothing and should be grateful for the opportunity to serve their masters. (Wave the flag here!)
The current leaders of our broken society depend on opinions, not facts, to lead people away from seeking the truth. In this way they can continue to blame the player for not winning a rigged game.
Reading through these comments is amazing. Is the current year 2012??? Or 1865??? Can we do some fact checking? Everyone please review the percentage of folks on welfare for whites, and then Backs. You’ll probably be surprised that the percentage of whites on welfare is higher than Blacks.
There are enough bad stories of Welfare abusers, lazy and undereducated to go around. Blanket statements about Blacks and any other race are categorically false and just wrong. Any nay Sayers need to do more research. Take a day in the life and see. A friend of mine, who happens to be African American, applied to several jobs on the Internet and was turned down by all of them. She has many credentials and still no interviews. She then re-applied to the same jobs but this time changed her race the White. Guess what? She got 7, count them, 7 follow up interviews. Why is that? So when you go into an office a profession or business and see few African Americans, ask yourself how many we’re never given a chance to even interview because of their race?
It would be fruitless in this blog to discuss al of the maladies that slavery left on the educational system of African Americans, but consider this: slave master forbade slaves from learning to read or write and any slave found in violation was often murdered, Post Civil War education of Blacks in segregated schools was deemed separate but unequal by the Supreme Court in 1954, in the industrial revolution, Affirmative Action was White, white men were openly hired first before a Black man was offered work, etc. Slavery and Jim Crow are the legacy of Blacks in America.
Moving to today, there are many educated and qualified minorities to fill many open jobs. Do some research on office politics, promotions, upward mobility and long term employment. Employers tend to be less tolerant of minorities and hire less and promote even less. Blacks have to struggle more just to stay employed than our white counterparts.
Kay- clearly you didn’t read the article or the comments-

“though blacks are only 12% of the population, black households make up 1/3 of all food stamp participants. However, whites account for another 31% and Latinos account for another 28%. This means that Roughly 39% of all blacks in the US are on Food Stamps, while 7% of all Whites are on food stamps. The Point is too many people are on them.”
Whoever said don’t compare Blacks to Mexicans is right. Mexicans come here to TAKE advantage of the American dream, while an alarming percentage of blacks use something that happened over
A century ago keep them from contributing to society. I challenge you to drive thorough a black area during the middle of a work day, then drive through a white area.
My ancestors were slaves but that disnt keep my family from taking advantage of a system designed to at least TRY to give us an advantage. Does it always work? Sure it doesn’t. But sitting back and doing NOTHING to better ourselves does nothing to help our situation. I was looked down upon growing up by the other black kids because I went to class and because I went to college. I believe “uncle Tom” was my nick name? I won’t sit here and tell you the playing field is level, but that’s no excuse for 39% of our population to be on foodstamps. After the election, I saw where some of my old black friends from high school were celebrating on Facebook because Obama wasn’t going to take away their foosstamps like Romney. Then posting pictures of their kids kissing a picture of Obama. Teaching our kids to glorify hand outs is what is wrong with our society. And until we stop doing this, nothing is going to change. People will continue to look down on our race as long as we keep making excuses for OUR own behavior.
Happy new year

Whites make up the majority of all programs simply because we comprise 80% of the populace, although there are more whites on welfare the percentage of black people is much higher, something like 40 out of 100 and whites 6 out of 100. But thats beside the point, slavery was a normal part of society in all major civilizations throughout all of antiquity back to ancient Sumer. When Obama was running in 04 the black people I work with would say the silliest things, such as Obama would get them more money for Section 8 and welfare payments, I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I know a girl who was trying to get section 8 cash assistance and was always made to wait and told section 8 had waiting list. So the next time she went she checked Hispanic instead of White under race and they expedited the process and she had the cash witin a couple days and housing in 30 days. Asian people come to America and live 25 people deep in a 3 bed apt. and wont allow anyoe to move out until all the adults have thier own business or are prospering in some way. I am from New Jersey and if you go to Camen which is the worst city in America and if you go there all the busnisses in the black community are owned by other non white races such as Koreans or Arabs. And the SBA has programs to give women and minorities loans with a business plan for start up cost, which by the way White Men do not get. So I believe black people just believe that there is no oppurtunity for them to suceed and I dont believe it is laziness. There is a guy that works for me whom I hired through a temp agency. I pay him commission and on average he earns about $800 to $1200 per week plus gratuities. Now he is a black guy from a bad section of Camden but I pay him enough to move out. He takes a bus everyday 45 minutes and then walks 2 miles to the shop. He could easily get an apartmet down the street but he wants to stay in his hood and raise his kids there which I dont get. And recently he was arrested for selling heroin. Why would he choose to do that? I think balck kids need to be taught about the oppourtunities they have and parents just are not living up to that responsibilty. They no nothing about money in the inner city and I find it crazy that 76% of pro athletes declare bankruptcy 2 years after they retire. Mike Tyson squandered a $300 million fortune. I know Im getting off topic but I feel it is true that Black youth are raised with a sense of entitlement and zero work ethic, they would rather be given a little tahn work for a lot and that is just a fact. I have a lot of Black friends and at 33 a lot of them have never had a full time job and I have offered them jobs at one of my companies. When they turn 18 thier mothers make them go to social services and get on TANF and food stamps that day. Instead of getting offended they need to look within and break the cycle. My cousin Jimmy grew up on welfare in a one parent home because his Father was imprisoned for abusing his Sisters and he worked at the flea market after school from the age of 11 until he graduated High school and then got academic scholarships to go to college in England and then went to Dental school and now he owns vacation homes in Aruba. He started with nothing and was never given anything a black person cannot recieve if they just put in the effort and believe in themselves.
I am a white male who attended public school in South Carolina and I can honestly say that the only distraction I found during my enrollment was the presence of african americans. I am not referring to all but to most, probably 90%. I took mostly honors classes which held only a few who were not disruptive but actually were quiet and cared about their education. However, other classes which were required by the state and district to take which held and influx of african americans were insane. It was like going to class in a zoo. They would scream, shout, cuss, fight, grope each other, and discuss sexual activity, drinking, drugs, gangs, rap, and didn’t give a care about what was being taught. Constantly fighting and refusing to speak english but resulting to ebonics. Latinos, poorer whites, asians, albanians, syrians, you name it attended this school and none were as disruptive as the blacks. All blacks need to do is to shut up and act like humans and not like chimpanzees and maybe something will be accomplished in their near future that doesn’t require big sis handing it to them.
I’ve noticed there has been a lot of blame placed on the public school system, but which political camp is always defending the status quo in the public school system? While I agree that teachers deserve to earn a decent living trading our children for union votes won’t cut it.As long as Democrats know they have the African-American vote in their back pocket they will never go against the teachers union and inner city youth wil remain in obsolete public schools. The teachers union has opposed Charter schools, the voucher system and any meaning full form of acountablity and will continue to do so.Just look how the D.C. Schools performed when they were shook up.So while Africa -Americans continue to vote Democrat becuase Republicans now use coded racism and hate every African-American according to Democrats, the very same party that defended slavery and enacted Jim Crow laws,Democrats will continue to keep the Public School system in America running the same way.
PS.Just a general thought, how is it that many African-Americans cannot forgive American and Whites ,many of whom immigrated to America After Slavery or fought agianst it,for slavery, but they can forgive the Democratic party?
“more than 44.7 million people received food stamps in 2011. Well this should be a no-brainer because according to the last US Census data there are only 38 million total black people in the United States or 12% of the entire US population…black households make up 1/3 of all food stamp participants.” your figures
do the math 1/3 of 44.7m = 14.9m blacks on food stamps
14.9m of 38m blacks are on food stamps
That equates to 39% of all blacks are on food stamps
THAT is a large percentage of the black population
All I can say is that as a 40+ yr old white man, I have no guilt for slavery. Why should i? I never ownd one adn my family never owned any.
As for naming South Afica, Kenya,Ghana, and Nigeria as “scientifically advanced nations” …… ummm, ok? If it is so great there, have a nice trip! I have been to two of those places and though they do have electricity and phone and internet, I think I will stay right here in the good ole US of A. If people hate it so badly, move on! Ever heard of Liberia? If you don’t know much about Liberia, her you go. Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberia and see how that went. The US has supported them for over 100 years and still over 78% of their society is under the poverty line. So saying the white man makes all the black problems happen is BS. The past is the past and living in it keeps you there. Use the lessons and hardships from the past to motivate and drive yourself to become a better person. Whatever that is to you. Nobody supports the crazy “white” guy that shoots up a school because his mommy did this or didn’t do that. Why support the “black” guy that commits crime becuase he grew up in the hood. Hell, I grew up with druggie parents, in a trailer park, and I pushed myself to not be like them. Now, 40 years later I have three homes, a college educations (that I paid for myself as there were no grants or scholarships for a middle income white person) a family where the mom AND DAD live together. I never said “poor me, i deserve extra help” due to the abuse and crappy childhood i had.
As for the title “african american”, that needs to go. How do you claim a continent that has 54 countries in it and huge mix of races/ nationalities. If a white person is born in africa and comes to the US, can they claim “african-american” as a title?
The BIG problem with what you stated is simple:
There are NOW 52 million Americans on welfare & foodstamps
http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics/
40% are Black = 20 million Black Americans
40% are White = 20 million White Americans
15% Hispanic = unknown
5% other = unknown
In America there are:
38 million Black Americans = 53% (over HALF on welfare)
223 million White Americans = .0001% on welfare
Now while that puts things in perspective; We have to realize that there is an Epidemic in the Black Community that we must confront head on and destroy.
Liberals LOVE to promote Welfare to the Black Community because it plays into their “Superiority Complex” meaning they have to feel that they are the “Do Gooder’s” helping the poor Americans they can’t fend for themselves. That’s Bull Crap!
Republicans want to promote giving a “hand up” NOT a “hand out”
We don’t care what color you are as long as you are a contributor to society. Most everyone falls on hard times, it’s how you get up that counts.
And there are 10% idiots in every part of society; sports, entertainment, politics, and every culture. Liberals must always point out the 10% idiots in the Republican Party, and make excuses when someone from the Democratic Party makes a gaff.
That is because when Black Americans realize that the entitlements that Liberals push on 53% of the Black Community is ruining ANYONE’S motivation and then is passed down to the next generation. And we’ve been witness to it for 40 years.
The analogy of a rich kid getting free stuff from his parents being equal to a poor person getting free stuff from the government usually turns out the same product. Someone who feels THEY are entitled.
I also use the analogy of:
No matter WHO YOU ARE; if someone came to your house every week and gave you $2,000 at some point, NO MATTER how much you loved to work, you would eventually stop working. It might start out that you woke up late, or it was pouring down rain, but something would eventually lead you to rationalize that “why” should you work when you could easily survive off the 2k per week.
Of course food stamps don’t pay 2k per week but the analogy was to show how the psychology works on anybody.
So you see the government is to blame for constructing a system that allows complacency. It’s ABSOLUTELY NOT that anyone is lazy, it’s that the system MUST be structured to give a hand up NOT A HAND OUT.
So, in other words, the marvelous “Welfare State” did not fix the situation, but made it even worse–thanks SO much for making my point! The cure: CAPITALISM!
Blacks have never had a desire to work. Notice..I said desire. What I meant to say is “burning desire” like Anglos do. That explains why there are so many ghettos in the U.S.A. with blacks clamoring to get out of their high crime areas and to move next door to evil “whitey”. They hate whitey, his ways, his monetary success, they hate everything Uncle Tom stands for….but when push comes to shove, they prove themselves to be the biggest hypocrites on the planet because the only people they want to move and live next door to are the big evil white man they so fervently hate. In my opinion blacks are brain dead and need to go back to their natural habitat on the dark continent. Develop that continent if you dare or can. Why not? Africa has more natural resources than the west does, except the most important one.. people with brains. Therefore they are doomed for all eternity
@Jerry: Seems like the KKK is alive and well. And by your writing it is obvious that you lack the brains to judge your surrounds, society, and history. And you are probably some White, loser, that blames everything and always on someone else, blacks included. Facts of life show that given the SAME OPPORTUNITIES non-Anglos do better in the same environment, whether it’s sports, finance, academia.SAD there are still people like you around. SAD!
