Philadelphia, PA – On Sunday, October 16th 2011, from 2-6PM, on the lawn of the headquarters of OIC of America, a FLASH MOB will strike. But this is not the same “flash mob” that has been sensationalized and highlighted by the mainstream media. Instead at the Leon H. Sullivan building at 1415 N. Broad Street from 2 to 6pm, Phresh Philadelphia is teaming up with Opportunities Industrial Centers of America (OICA), the 100 Black Men, United Philly, Brick Bandits Entertainment, Party and Krusherz Entertainment to facilitate a free youth event that will show youth the power of education, humanity, entrepreneurship, and unity.
Through working with OIC of America, we’ve brought back the FLASH initiative, which was started in the 1980’s by OIC. The word “flash” means Future Leaders Advancing Self Help, but when most people hear or see the word flash in conjunction with Philadelphia teenagers, they often carry a negative connotation we call flash mobbing. What we’ve decided to do is change that.
Through this event and many more like it, we are going to change the image of flash mobs in Philadelphia from its current negative symbolism, to one that means young people are the future leaders advancing self help.
Not only will we be celebrating young Philadelphians doing something positive, but trying to raise awareness to the OIC’s Entrepreneurial Mindset Initiative, and celebrating what would be the 89th Birthday of Reverend Leon Howard Sullivan. Together, we can reverse the negative symbolism of Flash Mobs and build each other, and our communities.
