The businessman identified to be 45-year-old Oral Johnson who was detained by the Police after he was found carrying over 19 pounds of cocaine in St. James has been offered a $1.5 million dollar bail.
Johnson who was also noted to be the owner of a restaurant in Westmoreland had court on Wednesday and was charged with possession dealing in, taking steps to export and trafficking 19 pounds of cocaine with an additional 10.98 ounces.
According to the Jamaica Gleaner who initially published the story, Johnson was absent, however, was represented by attorney-at-law Martyn Thomas who informed Judge Sasha Ashley who presided over the case that her client could not have made it due to the water crises that is taking place with the National Water Commission (NWC).
Additionally, the presiding judge was informed that Johnson had a medical condition that would be hard to get treated while being detained.
As for the vehicle that Johnson was found travelling in with the cocaine, it was released to its owner on a $200,000 bond after an attorney-at-law Henry McCurdy made an application for it to happen.
It is understood that Johnson is expected to make his first physical appearance before the court on July 7. He was arrested in Coral Gardens, St. James on the 26th of April which also led to $US3.3 million dollars being seized as well as $30,000 in Canadian dollars.
