Pushing out ahead of her two Jamaican compatriots, 25-year-old Candice McLeod set a new season’s best in the 400m final in Monaco.
McLeod was unable to edge out in front of world champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas but managed a second-place finish ahead of Commonwealth Games champion Sada Williams of Barbados. Lowering her season’s best time of 50.05 seconds, McLeod clocked in at the finish line in 49.87 seconds.
Miller-Uibo, who holds a personal best of 48.36, won the race with a 49.28 finish, while Williams, fresh off of her 400m gold medal win in Birmingham, England, placed third with a 50.10-second finish.
McLeod’s fellow Jamaican contenders, 33-year-old Stephenie Ann McPherson and 24-year-old Junelle Bromfield were unable to finish in the top three. Stephenie Ann McPherson, who has a season’s best of 50.15 seconds, finished fourth in 50.52 seconds. While Bromfield, who previously had a season’s best of 51.18 seconds, lowered it to 50.93 seconds with a sixth-place finish.
