The world’s fastest woman currently, Elaine Thompson-Hera has accomplished undoubtedly much during her career as a sprinter, but does the Olympic champion truly get all the respect that she deserves as she superbly represents her country internationally?
After winning her first World Athletic Championship 100m medal, Thompson-Hera was asked by an interviewer if she thought she got the respect she deserves in light of winning three Olympic gold medals in the 100m, 200m and the 4x400m, and she revealed that she thought she had not. But despite this revelation, Thompson-Hera assured them that she will not let it interfere with her work and will continue to do what she loves.
The five-time Olympic gold medalist also spoke briefly about the challenges she has faced this season. According to Thompson-Hera she has missed many of her training sessions and admitted to not being in her best shape. She has struggled with a lingering achilles injury that was the cause of her withdrawal from the 200m semi-finals in 2019 and has also had issues with her shoulder.
Thompson-Hera also expressed that she is proud that despite her setbacks she has been able to perform at a high enough level to medal in the championships. The 100m bronze medalist and her teammates Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson will all be contending for gold in the upcoming 200m World Championships finals on Thursday night.
