Prime Minister Andrew Holness visited a grieving Gwendolyn McKnight at her home on Friday as she mourns the death of her daughter Kimesha Wright and her 4 grandchildren who were brutally murdered in the Cocoa Piece Massacre on June 21. The Prime Minister sat and spoke with Mrs McKnight as well as her family for some time, then once again pledged the government’s assistance with the funeral expenses.
The suspected murderer, 23-year-old Rushane Barnett, was a relative of the deceased and allegedly displayed violent behaviour in the past. During his visit, the PM warned families not to take displays of violent behaviour of any degree from family members lightly, as each incident has the potential to quickly escalate and become a risk to their safety.
while reflecting on his visit yesterday with the family during this difficult time, Prime Minister Holness posted a photograph of him and Mrs McKnight embracing and wrote: ” It takes a community, and yesterday a community gathered to provide strength and comfort to a grieving family.”
