OK, spoiler alert .. I’m not feeling Empire. And no I haven’t watched it, yeah I said it. Partly because I’m living In Bangkok, Thailand where a lot of the foolishness from the US doesn’t make it onto the airwaves. And mostly because I don’t need to be putting more silliness into my mind-space. I’m particular about that area. And third, on a business side I’ve seen the Black viewing audience get pimped out so many times by FOX and other television networks and then kicked out after their services have been performed.
If you don’t know, the Black viewing audience drives television. We disproportionately watch and we over consume. According to Nielsen, Blacks watch 37 percent more television than ANY other group. And the best we can get is Empire? On a post on the Entertainment Weekly you’ll read this bit of insight –

Really? C’mon son.
As my good friend Valerie N. Adams-Bass writes in her piece The Emperor’s New Clothes, “If watching Empire is your guilty pleasure and you are excited to tune in every Wednesday, enjoy the show. If you choose to allow you children to watch the show, be sure that you are talking with them about the messages they are seeing. Do not be like the emperor’s honest old minister. Do not be fooled by the emperor’s new clothes. For it was the child in Hans Christian Andersen’s fable that declared “But he hasn’t got anything on”’.
